Dear Friends:
Here at Industrial Theatre, we have just wrapped up our 12th summer of free Shakespeare with “Henry IV.” I am pleased to report that the play had the highest attendance of any IT production to date –- over 1,400 audience members in total. Thanks to everyone who participated in the show as an artist, attendee, or supporter.
Our company was founded in 1995 with the mission to challenge and inspire both artists and audiences. In the dozen years since, we are proud to have presented 45 productions, including 11 original, company-generated pieces, eight new works by resident playwright Bill Donnelly, and 12 free, summer Shakespeare productions. Along the way, we have participated in seven Boston Theater Marathons and nine Lights On festivals, and produced two seasons of original radio plays. We have hosted acting workshops for local youth, toured our Shakespeare shows to day camps, college programs and senior centers, and trained aspiring theatre technicians through our internship program. Over the past 12 seasons, over 10,000 audience members have experienced an IT performance, and more than 100 artists have joined with us to share their talent, creativity, and enthusiasm for theatre.
For a lot of people, then, Industrial Theatre has been a part of our lives for quite some time. It is therefore with mixed emotions that I announce that the company will be going on hiatus for the upcoming 2007-08 season. While our commitment to the idea of thoughtful, no-nonsense theatre –- created by local artists for local audiences –- remains unabated, we have concluded that it is time for a collective break. We will use the year to rest and reflect on how best to continue to fulfill IT’s mission in the future.
All of us at Industrial Theatre greatly appreciate the support we have received over the last 12 years from you, our artists, audience members, volunteers, and donors. Thank you for doing your part in what has been a truly collaborative effort.
With sincerest thanks and best wishes,
Christopher Scully Artistic Director |
